Chief Master Sergeant James B. Whitlow Jr. is the State Command Chief Master Sergeant for the Colorado Air National Guard. As the Command Chief, he advises the commander on matters impacting the enlisted force such as proper utilization of personnel, quality of enlisted leadership, management and supervisor training, operations tempo and quality of life. Further, Chief Whitlow is responsible for monitoring compliance with Air National Guard and Air Force standards including those standards governing conduct, performance, appearance, and professional military education; serves on advisory councils; and works to insure a close relationship with the local community. Chief Whitlow maintains a liaison between the Assistant Adjutant General for Air and enlisted force and staff members, and communicates with the commanders on problems, concerns, morale, and attitudes of the enlisted force.

Chief Whitlow originally enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1988 and later transferred to the Colorado Air National Guard in 1998. His background includes various duties in Information Management at the unit and major-command levels. Throughout his career, he has filled a myriad of roles including deployment manager, training manager, additional duty first sergeant and Directorate Superintendent. His active duty assignments included bases in Turkey, Virginia, Idaho, and Colorado. He has also served overseas in South Korea in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In April 2015, Chief Whitlow was selected as the State Command Chief for the Colorado Air National Guard. His civilian employer is DXC Technologies, where he is a Program Executive for outsourced clients. Chief Whitlow is married to Colleen Whitlow and they have two children, Joshua and Tiffani, and three lovely granddaughters, Norah, Izabella, and Harper.

Further, Chief Whitlow was responsible for monitoring compliance with Air National Guard and Air Force standards including those standards governing conduct, performance, appearance, and professional military education.   He also served on advisory councils and works to insure a close relationship with the local community.  Chief Whitlow severed as that vital link between the Assistant Adjutant General for Air, enlisted force, and staff members; also providing commanders council on problems, concerns, morale, and attitudes of the enlisted force.
